20th Century Red, White and Blue Dhurrie Saf Runner Mehrab Rug from India, 1970s

About the Item

The Dhurrie is a kilim entirely composed of excellent quality cotton, which gives this particular product a warm effect in winter and cool in summer when you walk on it with bare feet. Mainly produced in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and in Himachal Pradesh. They were also brought as dowry by young women. This specimen of ours has the typical Saf motif that repeats mehrab several times: side by side prayer rugs, used in Muslim families for daily prayer.
