Textile: the art of experiment
Symmetry and perspective, line and color, depth and plasticity of texture of the hand-knotted rug. La Scala collection appeared as a result of collaboration of designer Mike Shilov and atelier Tapis Rouge. The designer's sketches in the hands of a team of artists and colorists received detailed color and texture solutions. The rug is hand-woven by an artisan workshop in Nepal, whose weavers succeeded the experience of generations of craftsmen.
Artist's statement performed knot by knot in a designer rug
The depicted drawing of the stairway is symmetrically reflected on either side of the center. Lines of architectural graphics, rationality in the refracted space. The drawing protrudes over the pictorial canvas in emerald and azure tones. The flow of color from one to another, flashes of contrasting ochre sound like the surface of frescoes in ancient cities. The play of light on the surface is created by the heterogeneity of the fibers, consisting of matte wool and iridescent silk.
