Rare Pair of Joseph-André Motte 'Luge' Armchairs, Edition MPS, France, 1967

About the Item

This exceptionally rare pair of armchairs was designed by Joseph-André Motte and produced by Edition MPS in France in the late 1960s. The model is named 'Luge' and was originally designed by Motte for the interior of the Grenoble City Hall in 1967 (see last image of the listing for an archival image) The design is marked by the striking base in chromed steel, with the two sled style legs bending outwards from the centre the upholstered seat. The diagonal lines of the base and the upward pointing ends of the legs give the chairs a distinct and refined appearance. The seat with cushion, backrest and armrests are all upholstered in a taupe/grey fabric. The straight, almost cubic lines of the upholstered part offer a beautiful contrast with the more dynamic shape of the base. The chairs are in good condition, the chrome with a beautiful, natural patina (can be polished for more shine if desired). The fabric in overall good condition, with minor fading on the arms. The chairs can be reupholstered in any fabric of your choice by our upholstery studio, please contact us to learn more about the possibilities.
