18th Century French Louis XV Style Provencal Buffet
About the Item
A fine 18th century Louis XV style French Provincial bridal buffet made of solid walnut, likely from the Burgundy region. Three dovetailed drawers with original cast brass pulls. Two paneled doors with thick, beveled frames, newer lock and key, opening to one interior shelf. Beautiful hand carved details include a stylized potted plant in the center and trailing flowering vines on the apron. The carved hearts between the drawers, was a common motif for this traditional bridal gift, brought by the groom to the new house. Large hinges with decorative cast brass finials. Good craftsmanship with nice proportions, providing ample storage. Pine as a secondary wood. Waxed patina. In good condition for its age. Normal wear with repaired legs. No lock on middle drawer.
