Late 18th Century German Neoclassical Chest of Drawers or Commode

About the Item

Late 18th century German neoclassical chest of drawers or commode Straight rectangular body standing on four downward tapering legs with two drawers extending across the entire front. Finishing wooden top plate with fine mirror veneer. Diamond-shaped keyhole surrounds in ebonized wood. Timelessly beautiful chest of drawers from the early period of German classicism, stylistically very close in its simple elegance to the furniture of the Paretz Palace near Potsdam, the favorite summer residence of the Prussian King Wilhelm III. (1770-1840) and his wife Queen Luise (1776-1810).
