The namesake of this piece is an alley one block from our Los Angeles studio, known for its bazaar-like display of stalls hawking clothes and textiles at wholesale prices. The scene is reminiscent of markets in Central America and, walking through it during breaks from the shop, one feels instantly transported out of the US. It's a hectic environment, however, and the Santee Sideboard is a meditation on minimalism in answer to the raucous consumerism taking place below. We take great care in selecting the sustainably harvested lumber for every piece. Each panel of the cabinet, once milled and joined, is polished with well tuned hand planes leaving a sheen unattainable with sandpaper. Solid wood construction and a natural oil and wax finish make it a sturdy, peaceful moment in any location. Available in walnut or maple. Custom sizing options available; please inquire for pricing.

About the Maker

West of Noble

West of Noble is a Los Angeles based design practice dedicated to the pursuit of making wooden furniture by hand. It was founded by designer and itinerant woodworker Greg Mitchell in Greenpoint, Brooklyn in 2011, but is inspired by a lifetime of travel, time spent on the sea, various odd jobs, wooden sailboats, and friends and family; without whom the company would not exist. Our designs are guided by the making process, and the unpredictable nature of our chosen material. We aim for the simplest line in each piece, believing it is only finished when there is nothing left to take away.
