Dutch 17th Century Rosewood Ebony Baroque Cupboard Kussenkast, 1670

About the Item

This is a unique and monumental Dutch Baroque cupboard called “Kussenkast" from the late 17th century, probably circa 1670-1680. Made of rosewood, ebony and ebonized wood veneered on solid oak. This elegant and rich cabinet-on-stand, typically for the second half of the 17th century, was designed in oak and enriched with carved ebony and veneers of rosewood and ebony. The façade decor, extremely geometric in arrangement, is executed in the strict architectural format typically for the Dutch furniture of the 17th century. Surmounted by a straight entablature, with characteristic frieze, architrave, and projecting cornice. The moulded corniche, above a plain frieze, set with three lion’s masks. The two doors with rectangular panels set with moulded corniches and scrolling foliage, flanked by half round pilasters with carved capitals. The sides also with rectangular panels with moulded corniches. The lower section with two drawers with the original wooden handles, seated on the three original ball feet. Inside with the original oak shelf. This monumental piece has been fully restored and refinished. Possible to add other patinated shelves if needed.

Midcentury French Modernist Cabinet Vaisselier, 1950s
Located in Paris, IDF
Warm light brown oak and rich copper form a beautiful color palette in this cabinet vaisselier from the 1950s. On the front and top of the cabinet, the oak displays a striped lightwood/dark wood pattern that feels fun and very much of the era, while the recessed portions of the oak appear to shift into burnt orange for a subtle injection of natural color. Opening the door at the front of the cabinet, a series of small drawers are revealed for hidden storage and organization; the left side of the cabinet is formed by transparent glass, ideal for stowing decorative items or glassware, as well as giving the piece a sense of being filled with light. Though it was created by an unknown French craftsman, this piece is reminiscent of avant-garde designer Jean Royere’s work. Place it in your living room for a unique midcentury French modernist...
