About the Item

Fabulous Mid-Century Modern Stow & Davis 2-piece conference table designed by Giacomo Buzzita. It is comprised of a solid walnut perimeter with a veneer inner surface tabletop, back-beveled edges and eight tapered walnut legs with brass sabots. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. The top of this table has been striped and refinished and there are signs it had been refinished prior as well. There are a few small lighter colored spots in the finished top due to two different reasons: one, a color variance in the wood itself and two, whomever did the previous refinish sanded through the veneer in very small areas mostly on the edge. The legs have been restored. Please see photos and zoom in for details. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, 1940’s. Huge company meetings call for a huge conference table…and BOY, do we have a massive Mid-Century Modern conference table by Giacomo Buzzitta for Stow & Davis to offer to you. Let’s just start with the measurements! The top splits into two halves at the center of the table and EACH half measures in at 92 inches per section…that’s over 7 ½ feet per side!! And when its together, it’s a total of 184 inches in length! That’s over 15 FEET LONG!! You may need a megaphone at the meeting!! And…it’s 55 ½ inches in the center at its widest and 44 ½ inches on each end at its narrowest! It’s BIG…and it’s beautiful! It is comprised of gorgeous solid walnut with back-beveled edges with a veneer work surface in a unique shape that looks like two trapezoids joined at the center. There are eight walnut tapered legs, (4 for each side) capped with lovely brass sabots. It also offers flip-down hinges on the underside that secure the halves together. It is designed with superior quality by an iconic designer and a renowned company. This conference table is ready to host a large group of co-workers at the company meeting or it could be an impressive dining table if you have a large dining room. If you’ve been in search of a colossal conference table that is large and in charge, you just found it. Stow & Davis furniture company was founded in 1885 by George A. Davis when he purchased Thomas Haight’s interest in Stow & Haight and changed the name to Stow & Davis. Since then, the company has consistently grown and expanded to become one of the foremost leaders of the industry and is still in business today. The firm primarily produced kitchen, dining, and office extension tables. In 1928, the firm acquired Grand Rapids Desk Company, and the same year produced the first wood and steel framework desk in the wood furniture industry and would go on to produce many landmark furniture pieces such as The Progression lines I, II, and III from 1930-1960’s, The biomorphic “bubble chair” and the “Electa Series” between 1965-1970, and the “Free Dimensional” furniture wall system and “cube desk” series in 1974. Stow & Davis has proved time and time again that the company is willing to work hard so as to claim its share of the market by innovating and creating some of the most beautiful furniture designs of the industry. Giacomo “Jack” Buzzitta was born in Italy and came to America with his family when he was six and would go on to study at Kendall School of Design. He worked at John Widdicomb Company before he started his lengthy association with Stow & Davis. 38 Years! He was the only designer for them in their early years, so he was responsible for many types of furniture. He designed thousands of pieces of furniture, won several awards, and set many trends. Giacomo Buzzitta assisted Frank Lloyd Wright in designing a desk for Steelcase and they would later acquisition him to come work for them. He chose to stay with Stow & Davis and had maintained a stellar reputation with Steelcase. He was involved in educating young designers and was also a lecturer at Kendall School of Design. He retired in 1979 and passed away in 1989 but his design legacy lives on. A table this impressive doesn’t come along very often!! If you love it as much as we do, you need to make it yours!
