About the Item
A beautiful impressionistic oil painting on board by Gilbert Gaul (1855-1919). Great color and nice technique. Signed by artist lower right. Framed in an ornate gold frame with title "Winter in Hackensack" on the reverse. Very good original condition. Image size is 18" x 24"; framed size is 31" x 25". This piece has been vetted by 1st Dibs and is guaranteed to be authentic.

Born in Jersey City, New Jersey on March 31, 1855, Gilbert Gaul studied in New York City at the Art Student League and National Academy of Design under John George Brown. Although based in New York City, he made many trips to the West from 1882-91. Going as far as California, he was an illustrator for Harper's and Century magazines. Gaul died in New York City on Dec. 21, 1919.
