MODERN FRAMEWORK PAINTED IN OIL SIGNED AND DATED SCANAVINO 1963 Modern oil painting on cardboard signed and dated Scanavino 1963 We guarantee it to be authentic Measurements: 69 x 52 cm + frame 80 x 63 cm Scanavino Emilio, painter (Genoa 1922 - Milan 1986). He was born and studied in Genoa. After his stays in Paris and London, he worked as a ceramist in Albisola, in the Mazzotti Ceramics factory, where he met numerous artists and made friends with some of them, including Lucio Fontana, Asger Jorn, Guillaume Corneille, Roberto Matta, Wifredo Lam, Giuseppe Capogrossi , Gianni Dova, Sergio Dangelo, Enrico Bai, and others. As early as 1954 he exhibited in various galleries. It can be said that his luck came in 1957, when he moved to Milan and opened his first studio in an attic in Foro Bonaparte. Scanavino was most successful in the sixties at the Biennale, where not only Italian but also international critics recognized him as a notable personality. At the end of the sixties at the XXXIII Venice Biennale, where he exhibited again in a personal room, he won the Pininfarina Prize. In 1967 he was invited with Arturo Bonfanti, Carlo Nangeroni, Renato Volpini to the Art Alliance Foundation in Philadelphia. In his paintings later in the seventies the "knot" is perfectly delineated and recognizable, declined in disturbing forms, sometimes threatening and stained with blood red. Although Scanavino is an artist difficult to place in a specific current, he can be considered an informal abstractionist, close to Abstract Expressionism and the artistic research of Hans Hartung and Georges Mathieu. In 1970 he received the Grand Prix at the Menton Biennial. The collector Franco Castelli, director of Man and Art, became a friend and supporter of him. Between 1973 and 1974 the Kunsthalle of Darmstadt presented a vast anthological exhibition which, with some variations, moved to Venice at Palazzo Grassi and then to Milan at Palazzo Reale, in 1974. In 1982, despite the progressive worsening of the disease, he continued to work and have an intense exhibition activity in public and private spaces. In 1986 he was invited to exhibit at the Rome Quadriennale. He died in Milan on November 28, 1986.
