New York and California Artist, Harry Sternberg (1904-2001) Original Etching created 1929.
Pencil Signed lower right, pencil titled lower left. Edition size is seen lower center: 40 proofs.
The print is in excellent condition. It is unframed and presents in a 20" H x 24" W 2-ply museum mat.
The image measures: 8 7/8" H x 15 7/8" W. The creation date is seen in the plate lower right.
Born in New York City, Harry Sternberg was a painter, muralist, lithographer and educator. During the Depression he was a WPA artist, and his murals are in post offices in Chicago as well as Chester and Sellersville, Pennsylvania. From 1934-1968, he taught painting and graphics at the Art Students League in New York, from 1942-1945 graphics at the New School of Social Research, and from 1959-1969 was head of the Art Department in the Idylwild School of Music and Art at the University of Southern California. He studied at the Art Students League and graphics with Harry Wickey. He wrote several books on graphics including silk screening, etching, and wood cutting.
