"Russian Dancers with Balalaikas, " Fabulous Art Deco Ceramic Wall Plaques

About the Item

Vibrant and brilliant examples of Art Deco sculptural plaques, this pair was created by Valentin Shabaeff, a Russian-born artist who settled in Montreal, Canada. He became known for bas relief sculptures executed in ceramic, often large mosaics for commercial and residential projects, such as a panel with nudes and deer for the Hotel Vancouver. This pair is especially whimsical and colorful; the stylized Art Deco interpretation of the two figures is energetic and winning. Both panels are signed.
