About

H.C.F. Koch and Company opened in 1891 in what is now Manhattan's West Village. It 1890 Henry Koch made a bold move opening a grand emporium on 125th St. selling the finest in womens fashion and imported millinery. This beautiful velvet hat is from 1910, when hats were large and sat high on a womans head. The brims often extended beyond the breadth of the shoulders. These huge creations were secured to the head with long hat pins, which were skewered through the wearers piled up hair and hat.
