Lanvin Raw Silk pink madras Turban Hat, c.1960s

About the Item

During the 1960s , 40s and the early 50s hats were considered required accessories for well- dressed women. When hats saw a decrease in popularity during the 1960s fashion houses such as Lanvin and Hermes pressed on offering creative choices to their elegant customers. Non-Western influences were introduced to create fashionable headgears. This particular Lanvin turban was inspired by the Caribbean headscarf made of madras cloth from India which was worn by women as part of their traditional costumes. In the 1960s the turban style headgear enjoyed popularity, perhaps influenced by the interest in world cultures at the time. Today women continue to wear turban to show their classic and cosmopolitan style. This turban is constructed with a raw silk material. Raw silk has always been synonymous with luxury, dating back centuries. In the early days of production, raw silk was almost exclusively used for high-end garments worn by the wealthy and powerful. It was extremely high priced compared to other fabrics and considered a symbol of status and wealth. Today raw silk is still synonymous with luxury as it is clearly shown here with this exquisite head gear. Featuring a soft powdered pink hue. Accentuated by a modernist pattern in deep fuchsia pink, black and yellow . This Lanvin silk turban is elegant ,and refined with a touch of ´bad girl’ attitude.
