Large Novelty Wicker Straw Pagoda Beach Hat, 1950's

Who needs an umbrella when you have this fabulous hat!?! It's a 1950's extra large woven wicker hat with a bamboo and straw rim and a metal cap. The interior is outfitted with a lattice band which keeps the topper in place. There is a metal hook at the rim for hanging when not in use. The hat actually makes for interesting wall decor as the wicker is woven in a two-tone pattern creating a fun op art effect. There is no maker's mark but the original owner traveled quite a bit in Asia and probably acquired the hat when on an adventure. CONDITION Good and sound condition. The wicker, bamboo and straw is intact. There is some age related discoloration and/or darkening to the wicker as shown with arrows in photograph 11. MEASUREMENTS Overall, the hat measures 29.5" diameter x 5.5" deep and approximately 93" circumference. The interior band measures 24.5" circumference x 2.5" deep. Ties could be added to secure the hat for small sizes or consider weaving a long scarf through the lattice for a touch of color.
