McCartney SS2003 Silk Chiffon Satin Oversized Convertible Sleeves Sheer Knit Top
About the Item
Appearing in several versions on the Stella McCartney Spring/Summer 2003 collection runway with silk oversized long bell sleeves (see our photos of the gold and white versions beginning with Look 10 from the Vogue coverage), this one-off black pullover blouse has two-inch-diameter decorative floral shiny resin buttons at the top of its v-neck semi-transparent wool-and-silk knit bodice that enables more versatile styling via a thin braided silk cord at each of the sleeve hems.
The convertible arms, which have an inner billowing layer of topstitched-striped silk crepe chiffon, can be worn unbuttoned in a super long shape that showcases the shiny silk satin outer layer or draped at the elbows like a shawl to make the chiffon more visible like cuffs. Conversely, when the sleeves are folded upwards to hang near the bodice hem and fastened to the shoulder buttons, the chiffon layer dominates this shortened version.
Like the current styles of tops from 2024-2025 collections, the knit is see-through and relatively short, with a stitched rolled hem that sits above the hips to enable a sliver of bare skin to peak between a paired lower garment, such as shorts or harem pants (see our other Stella McCartney listings).
The materials tag was removed likely due to the bodice sheerness, while the brand and "Made In Italy" labels remain sewn to the back of the neckline. As there is no size restriction in the sleeves, the stretch knit will suit a women's US2-6 depending on bust size.

In a different color without metallic accents, this sleek three-button single-breasted lined jacket is paired with a matching seafoam-green tucked skirt with back slit. Immediately apparent based on the seven piped princess seams around the torso, the jacket is expertly tailored like Savile-Row menswear.
