1960's Harald Boucle Wool Dropped Waist Coat

About the Item

An elegant olive green and camel brown boucle wool coat by London society couturier Harald. The textured coat features a small high notched collar, gathered shoulders, three-quarter-length leg-o’-mutton sleeves with fitted cuffs and a light brown silk lining. The straight cut coat has a dropped waist which flares out into a softly pleated peplum base and fastens down the front with large gold buttons which feature a cut-out twist motif. The cuffs both feature a single large gold button with a cut-out twist motif. Very good condition; several very small holes and some light staining to the interior lining and the interior label. Measurements: Length: 44"; Shoulder Width: 17"; Sleeve Length: 23"; Bust: 38"; Waist: 40; Hips: 44 Approximate size: UK12 --- Provenance: Miranda Macmillan (née Quarry) - The Countess of Stockton Born in 1947, Miranda Louise Quarry is the stepdaughter of Lord Mancroft. A rebel by nature, Miranda blazed a nonconformist trail through a series of boarding schools and by her late teens, on the advice of a psychiatrist, she left schooling permanently and travelled to Barcelona, which marked the beginning of her peripatetic life. During her travels around Europe in the 60s, she fully embraced the worlds of art, dance, fashion and music. It was during this time that she met her first husband, the late great comedic acting legend Peter Sellers. Although a brief marriage (1971-1974), she has always maintained fond memories of her time with him stating that, ‘It was a privilege to have spent as much time as I did with Peter. He was one of the kindest and most generous people who ever walked this earth’. Miranda began to build her extensive collection of couture garments during her marriage to Sellers, purchasing couture from historic Parisian houses such as Dior and Givenchy as well as from the British designers of the moment, including Ossie Clark and Zandra Rhodes.
