About

Ethereal 1960's crisp-white pintuck cotton maxi dress from the iconic California couturier Juli Lynne Charlot. Juli Lynne Charlot was an actress turned designer. In 1947, she designed a felt circle-skirt which she decorated with appliquéd Christmas trees. The skirt was such a success that she continued to design similar skirts with embroidered and appliquéd motifs. According to many sources, Charlot was the originator of the poodle skirt! One thing that makes Juli Lynne Charlot garments special is that they told a story. This amazing gown, with original deadstock tags, was created after her travels to Mexico. Every inch of fabric has been stitched into perfect pintuck pleats to create that wonderful ribbed effect! I love the crochet-lace horizontal cut-out panels trimmed with satin ribbon. This flirty design allows for the faintest glimpse of skin. The bodice is a seductive low-cut empire plunge with ruffled collar and cuffs. A pure work of art and a study in dressmaking technique for sure!
