About the Item

This fabulous characteristic Roberta di Camerino maxi dress termed "ZIG ZAG PANNELLO" on the still present original paper tag dates back to the 1970s. It comes directly from the Roberta di Camerino archive in Italy (see archive's stamp on picture 9) and is unworn. The design shows a geometric, almost architectural, and instantly recognizable Roberta di Camerino illusion print pretending the dress to be a three-piece set of a blouse, some kind of wrap cardigan and a pleated zigzag motif skirt. This effect is called trompe l'oeil and means a "visual illusion in art, especially as used to trick the eye into perceiving a painted detail as a three-dimensional object" (Oxford Dictionaries). The dress has that perfect seventies cut of a fitted bodice with a pointed shirt collar and a floor-length skirt that flares out towards the hem. The main colors of red, green and blue with black accents are the signature Roberta di Camerino hues that Giuliana Coen Camerino often used in her designs. Here she added a wonderful plum shade that Iooks perfect with both the red and the green. The bodice and the cuffs of the long sleeves close with the most amazing "R" embossed gold-toned metal signature buttons. Made from a high-quality and soft pure virgin wool jersey, the dress has some stretch. It is unlined and slips over the head. The label reads "Roberta di Camerino Made in Italy". Tagged an Italian vintage size 44. Excellent vintage condition. One tiny hole at the edge of the hem at the back, though only visible under close inspection (see close-up). Shoulders: 38 cm – 15" (from shoulder seam to shoulder seam) Bust: 90 cm – 35.4" (bust darts; measured across under the arms; unstretched) Waist: 78 cm – 30.7" (unstretched) Hips: 94 cm – 37" (unstretched) Sleeve Length: 59 cm – 23.2" Length: 152 cm – 59.8" (measured from shoulder to hem) Measurements are taken flat and then DOUBLED for bust, waist and hips.
