About the Item

This fabulous Roberta di Camerino maxi dress termed "Hippie" on the still present original paper tag dates back to 1976. It comes directly from the Roberta di Camerino archive in Italy and is unworn. The green twin of this dress in a bigger size is available in my Oh! Jackie storefront as well. The design shows a quite unusual yet instantly recognizable Roberta di Camerino illusion print of black stitches and side pockets on a blue bodice that imitates the look of denim, a little darker blue triangular yoke downwards the waist and a plain blue skirt. This effect is called trompe l'oeil and means a "visual illusion in art, especially as used to trick the eye into perceiving a painted detail as a three-dimensional object" (Oxford Dictionaries). The dress has a V-neck with an open pointed collar, darts at bustline and long sleeves with cuffs that close with gold-toned metal logo buttons. It shows the signature logo "R" imprint on the upper part of both sleeves and a floor-length flared skirt. Made from a high-quality polyester jersey of a good weight, the dress has some stretch. It is unlined and slips over the head. The label reads "Roberta di Camerino Made in Italy". Tagged an Italian vintage size 42. New old stock. Inside near the hem a greenish mark from the archive's stamp. Not visible from outside. See picture.
