About the Item

The needlework on this 1960's shift dress by Margaretha Keighley is vibrant and reminiscent of folkloric styles providing the design a unique bohemian aesthetic. The body of the dress is an ivory white wool with a shift silhouette accented by bell sleeves. The beautiful needlework is executed with wool yarn in shades of aqua, yellow, pink, red, orange, green, purple, baby blue and framed in black. The design has a trompe l'oeil effect which takes on the appearance of a jacket over a dress with the embroidery repeated across the back and cuff of the sleeves. The dress zips and hooks at the back with fabric covered faux buttons at the front. It is fully lined in an acetate fabric. 1960's style slingback pumps would provide a period look for the design but consider pairing it with lace up boots for a modern bohemian vibe. CONDITION At first the dress appears to be in good condition but there are a couple of subtle stains at the front near the hem as shown in photograph 14. Unfortunately, a recent professional cleaning did not get the spots out. It could be worn as is for those that do not mind a little 'patina' to their vintage or consider altering the design to create a tunic top thereby hemming away the flaws. SIZING & MEASUREMENTS The size is not marked though the dress best fits U.S. sizes 4 - 6 with attention to the following measurements. For visual reference the mannequin in the photographs is a size 4.
