A "Simplicité" day dress in basin with mini-train dating from the transition period in fashion between the Directoire Round Gown and the french Consulat dresses before the napoleonic period line. The etymological definition of a basin is a woven fabric with a warp of thread and a weft of cotton. Basin uni. Basin piqué. Basin waistcoat. Basin dress. High-waisted long dress in white basin, embossed with fine stripes and naturally elastic. Bustier with oval neckline, pleated and tightened at the back with double drawstrings to tie at the front. Long stovepipe sleeves flounced with embroidered mousseline falbalas at the cuffs ending in a mitten, with an echo at the bottom of the dress. The ruffle embroidery on the cuffs is probably Lucknow from India, which is so characteristic of the white embroidery and stitches used by the Chikan Work, then imported by the East India Companies. This rare model is original and its seams have not been altered since. The dress is clean and white, having been meticulously cleaned and exhibited twice in French museums. No defects. Very good condition. Only to display.
Dimensions: French size 32-33. Front height 107 cm, back height 115 cm, sleeves 59 cm, shoulders 33 cm.
