Wild & Wonderful! Betsey Johnson hit the fashion world in the 1960's and quickly became an instrumental part of the 'Youthquake' scene designing fun and flirty clothing with an eye for the hip street fashions of the day. This early 1970's cotton knit dress for her 'Alley Cat' label encompasses everything that is divine about mixing bright colors and vibrant patterns. The simple silhouette of the dress replicates a t-shirt with a scoop neck, short sleeves and a row of buttons from the bodice to the hem. The ‘skinny’ cut and flounced hem is the perfect way to show off your curves and the mix of blue, yellow, green, red, aqua and black will not go unnoticed. The mix of stripe styles and a cartoonish bird print is an added bit of fun. Though professionally cleaned and ready to wear, the dress shows signs of age included some weakness to the knit at the seams and fading to the black edges as shown in photographs 6, 7 and 8. In addition, there is a subtly perceptible fading at the underarms which is not seen when wearing but is shown in photograph 11 with the dress flat. It is wearable though the dress will continue to age and might be best for a collector of Ms. Johnson’s early work. SIZING & MEASUREMENTS The size is not marked though it best fits a U.S. size 2 - 4 with attention to the following measurements taken without stretching the fabric though there is stretch.
