About the Item

This tabard dress with its structured trapeze shape, curving teardrop hem and mid-chest cutout is an unlabeled prototype from one of Cardin’s late 60s collections. It was acquired from the London estate of Anne Dettmer, whose expansive fashion collection has costumed movies such as “An Education” and “My Week with Marilyn.” Sleeveless tomato red tabard dress with oversize Peter Pan collar and teardrop cutout at middle chest; black domed leather buttons beneath collar. Rounded front and rear hemline and WAIST-HIGH side vents for exaggerated trapeze shape; front patch pockets each hip. Hand-finished rear nylon zipper closure with top hook and eye; fully lined in matching silk. fabric: luxury weight wool twill, silk georgette noteworthy: dry clean only alterations: none condition: very good with one small moth divot beneath collar, light flaking to vinyl buttons and scattered very faint light spots on skirt (see photos) measurements: neckline opening: 6” diameter collar: 4” at widest shoulders: 15” outer fabric edge to edge bust: 37 ½” max waist: 33” hip: 43” (lying flat) length: 39” from shoulder, 31” from underarm sweep: 48” (lying flat) side vents: 23 ½” (yes, that’s waist high!) label: unlabeled* Pierre Cardin prototype (see photos for label in identical dress purchased from same estate) size: no size tag present; comparable to modern size small – medium *Though this piece is unlabeled, it was purchased with an identical dress from the same estate that bore the Pierre Cardin prototype label (see photo).
