About the Item

1950’s Travilla ornate brocade dress with a built-in velvet bow belt. The rolled collar dress zips and hooks at the back with hooks and snaps at the belt. The gorgeous fabric is an upholstery weight with details reminiscent of 18th Century French gowns. The floral print is in shades of gold, green, lilac, blue, plum and a coppery peach. The olive green velvet belt coordinates nicely with the brocade and provides a focal point separating the fitted bodice from the folds of the full skirt. Lined and labelled to the interior. The dress has a demure aesthetic which is a bit of a departure from the glamorous designs Mr. Travilla created for his greatest admirer, Marilyn Monroe … including the famous ‘subway dress’ from the The Seven Year Itch and the pink bow gown from Gentleman Prefer Blondes. He was originally discovered by Ann Sheridan and made quite a name for himself in Hollywood before creating his own label in the 1950’s. Travilla designs are so special that they make everyone feel like a star! CONDITION Very good condition with a little wear to the fabris. Professionally cleaned and ready for wear.
