About the Item

Be still my beating heart. Rendered in the softest shade of rose peach silk chiffon, this original late 1940's dress is a rare piece to behold and the perfect piece to add to your vintage collection. The soft sweet heart neckline is framed by gathered and pleated shoulder straps, which draw in along the base of each shoulder strap and along the top of each shoulder line, creating a raised pleated design, whilst setting off the sleeveless cut. The fitted bodice, is set off by radiating silk chiffon pleats along the bust-line which pleat vertically into the shoulder straps, contrasting the central silk panel of the bodice upon which pleated gathers join centrally in decorative stylised looped bow details.The cinched in waistline, sets off the pleated fathers that radiate from the waistband along the floating silk chiffon skirt line, completing this dress in a truly timeless and iconic late 1940's silhouette. This dress is fully lined in crepe silk. Label: Edward Abbott Measurements of the Dress Armpit to Armpit: up to 32 inches Shoulder to Hem: 43.5 inches Waist: up to 24 inches Shoulder to Waist: 15.5 inches Hips: 36 inches Size: UK 6 US 2 Closures: This dress fastens at the back with a 11.5 inch metal zip and a hook and eye, followed by a hook and loop along the waistline. Condition: This dress is in near perfect vintage condition. Some very gentle wear to the top of the shoulder straps where the silk chiffon has gentle pulls and signs of wear. A small internal age mark along the silk lining along the internal bust-line. Very faint colour fading along the armpits, this is very minor and well concealed within the pleats. A few very small minor pulls to the silk chiffon skirt line, again these are well concealed within the pleats and drape of the skirt. These minor details are in no way apparent when the dress is being worn, and only noticeable upon closer inspection. Please refer to the photographs as they form part of the condition report. Washing instructions: This garment should be dry cleaned or hand washed in cool water. Fabric: Silk Chiffon, Crepe Silk Lined Vintage garments have been previously worn and lovingly cared for, they may however have a blemish or two.
