About the Item

This captivating 1930s soft ivory silk satin bridal gown is absolutely breathtaking and in beautiful vintage condition. The timeless elegance of the classic hourglass silhouette and feminine design features of this piece are reminiscent of silver screen glamour straight from Hollywood Boulevard. The bodice has delicate gathers atop of each shoulder and just below the breast on either side to accentuate the bust. There is a tiny cut away collar trimmed with a neatly piped satin seam above the button stand, which runs from the high neckline to the centre of the breast and hosts a line of 12 x delicate cut glass buttons engraved with a floral design. The long sleeves have a gamine, understated puff at the shoulder, and sweep into romantic bishop style billows with asymmetrical extended cuffs that fasten with concealed popper closures. The rich silk satin fabric is embossed with a linear design that catches the light intermittently and is cut on the bias to flatter the waist and hip. The floor sweeping skirt has an asymmetrical seam interrupted with an abstract V shape that runs at a gentle diagonal from above the right knee to just below the left. From here, the fabric fans out into a spectacular fish tail that falls in soft pleats to the ground. The reverse is embellished with a simple upwards facing seam that graduates on either side from the waistline to a point at the mid back. There is a fabric tie belt to match the dress which draws around the waist and fastens with a hook closure embellished with crystal rhinestones arranged in a stunning Art Deco design. There are two stones missing here, although this is barely visible. The give in the bias cut fabric will allow for a variation on sizing however the belt is a 28 inches and would need adjustment to be worn by any person over a US size 4 (UK 8) although the dress could be worn up to size US 6 or UK 10. MEASUREMENTS: LENGTH - 61.5 inches (156.21cms) SHOULDER TO HEM - 60 inches (152.4cms) BUST - 34 inches (86.36cms) WAIST - 30 inches (76.2cms) HIP - 34 inches (86.36cms) BELT - 28 inches (71.12cms) ACROSS SHOULDERS - 13.3 inches (33.78cms)
