About

A breathtaking 1940's Paquin demi-couture gown in the prettiest watercolor floral-garden silk. The House of Paquin was opened on the rue de la Paix in 1890 by Jeanne Paquin. The establishment was very successful and grew to be one of the largest fashion houses in Paris, with branches in London, Madrid, and Buenos Aires. This rare garment was designed by Antonio del Castillo, who remained with the house until 1944. The bodice is an elegant sculpted plunge with slight cap-sleeves. I adore the hourglass nipped-waist and dramatic backside train. The House of Paquin helped make the 20th century a decade of artistic refinement in haute-couture and confirmed Paris as pre-eminent center of fashion.
