About the Item

Bright colors, and the floral print were staple design elements in poplar 1970s fashion popularized by the rise of countercultural movements notably the hippies. The use of light weight fabrics to form wide silhouettes revived the aesthetic dress attributes from which the 70s hippie style is arguably derivative. This maxi length dress is made of a painted striped silk chiffon that produces a blue-to-white ombré effect that is reminiscent of watercolors softly bleeding together. Additionally, roses of pink, soft green, and red are painted atop in a lighthearted artisanal style. The bodice is fitted at the waist by darts from which a knee length tier drapes creating additional dimension to the dress. Echoing this fluidity, this dress also features elbow length angel sleeves. While the designer of this dress is unknown, the overall style is quite reflective of the work of designers Zandra Rhodes, and Adele Simpson. Size estimate: XS/S Measurements: Bust 32” Shoulders 13.5” Waist 25” Hips 36” Sleeves 17” Bodice length 14” Skirt length 38” Overall length 52”. Made of painted silk chiffon, this airy, and delicate tiered maxi dress brings a jovial 70s vibe to the wearer. The hems of each layer are finished masterfully by hand, and is lined in a light satin. This dress closes at the back with a centre back invisible zip that extends all the way to the jewel neckline. High-quality vintage pieces like this are yours to live in and love while increasing in value every year. It’s never too soon to start collecting them, as an investment in your wardrobe—and in yourself. - Follow us on Instagram @BASHAGOLD

Pauline Trigère Abstract Floral Print Cotton Kimono Angel-Sleeve Dress, 1960s
Located in Boca Raton, FL
Pauline Trigère was a prominent figure in putting American designers on the map. Like many of the acclaimed French couturiers, she was an expert at tailoring and had an eye for interesting volumes. However true-to-form of the American aesthetic, Trigère designs are known for their relative simplicity and elegance through ease. From the late 1960s, this magnificent dress is a fine example of why Trigère’s designs were so beloved in Hollywood during that period. Done in a woven cotton featuring an abstract floral print in white, chartreuse, pink, lavender, and ochre on a navy ground, this dress is a wearable work of art. The bodice begins with a high round collar and has incredible sheer kimono...

1970s Gina Fratini White and Blue Floral Cotton Maxi Dress
By Gina Fratini
Located in London, GB
Another elaborate example of romanticism from Gina Fratini, who really perfected this look during the early 1970s as she rose to prominence in the British boutique scene. The mod dress style of the 60s was beginning to wane and full length Victoriana returned for its first fashion come back in a century. This is a superb example of her flamboyant work, probably mid 1970s, with a tiered mousseline cotton dress with a high neck collar and a lace ruffle trim paired with a sleeveless bolero jacket. The jacket is integral to the dress and is attached at the shoulder seams. The dress is split into two tiers, one tier with a floral print that finishes just around knee length. The floral spray print is shaped like a bouquet, tied with a double bow and actually has the designer's name attached as a kind of gift card. I've never seen Gina Fratini apply her name to print before. The bottom tier, which reaches to the floor, is an A-line panel of plain white mousseline that is also edged in lace. The sleeves are gently gathered and have a frill hem whilst it fastens to the rear with the longest tier having the original metal zip. The other two layers are simply fastened with a couple of hook and eyes at the neckline. The print on the capelet is quite abstract looking with a procession of circles in a teal green and pale navy. An elaborate dress suitable for special occasions; it would make a fantastic alternative wedding dress. Both pieces are is in really super vintage condition with no issues of any note. The muslin has been freshly laundered and it is ready to wear. It will fit sizes up to a UK 8-10 or US 4-6. NOTES ON DESIGNER: Gina Fratini was a British designer renowned during the 1970s and early 1980s for her romantic gowns...
