Jacques Fath had a short career; 1937 until his death in 1957. After he died, his name fell into obscurity. In contrast to his great contemporaries, Christian Dior and Cristobal Balenciaga, Fath has been largely forgotten, but deserves to be rediscovered as a talented creator. Jacques forged a strong link with the American manufacturer Joseph Halpert, designing successful evening dresses for the American market. Eventually his designs were accepted in America and it is quoted that Carmel Snow, editor of Harpers Bazaar in 1949 said, "He makes you have sex appeal, and believe me that's important". This is perhaps the most darling and timeless 1950's party dress I have ever seen. Fashioned from pale yellow silk-organza, this creation has everything a woman wants. The bodice is a stunning low-cut plunge, sweetheart boned strapless with a flattering nipped-waist. I adore the black hand-beaded and rhinestone chantilly-lace trim which give this show-stopper wonderful texture. The full pleated circle-skirt finishes the garment off with a perfect "new look" silhouette. The matching over-sized shawl wrap is equally as gorgeous. This will be the ensemble you reach for every time you want to look elegant. Measurements Bust:33-34 inches Waist:25 inches Hips:Free Sweep Length top to waist:11 inches Length waist to hem:33 inches This garment is in excellent condition with no rips, discoloration or holes. Perfectly working back metal-zipper and fully-lined. A few surface spots throughout which we have not tried to clean. This ensemble is over 50 years old and is truly stunning.
