Black Two Piece Italian Tiered Dress With Ruffles, 1980's

About the Item

There is a whole lot of 1980's 'fabulousness' going on with this two piece black ruffled dress which consists of an off-the-shoulder blouse and partly quilted skirt. The blouse is constructed with an elasticized built-in shawl collar (see it untied in photograph 11), puff sleeves with buttoned cuffs and rows of netting that resemble icing on a cake. The skirt has a quilted yoke and hem with tiered rows of synthetic raffia and netting that coordinates with the blouse sleeves. It zips at the side and is designed to provide a fitted silhouette at the waist and hips with wonderful volume to the hem. As an ensemble, the two pieces create a dramatic look that is period perfect 1980's and a little reminiscent of ruffled flamenco costumes ... ole! Only an unreadable remnant remains of the designer label though the contents label is intact and reads 'Made in Italy'. CONDITION Overall the two pieces are in good vintage condition though the skirt has a seam flaw as shown in photograph 15. One of the ruffles at the back has become detached and could be restitched though the underlying fabric may need to be reinforced with banding. The blouse is in very good condition and could be wonderful worn as a separate with high waist pants or a pencil skirt. SIZING & MEASUREMENTS The size is not marked though the pieces best fit Medium - Large sizes with attention to the following measurements. Please note the blouse as a separate might work for Medium sizes such as a U.S. 8 though the skirt fits more like a size 12. For visual reference, the mannequin in the photographs is a size 4 and the skirt had to be clipped in order to keep it in place.
