C.1980 Judy Hornby Couture Silk Cut Velvet Flapper Style Dress

About the Item

Judy Hornby recreates an Art Deco drop waist flapper style with this C.1980 cut velvet and silk charmeuse cocktail dress. The shimmering colors of the cut velvet including shades of icy blue-gray, golden yellow and a pinkish red, are offset dramatically by the black sheer background. The buttoned charmeuse collar and extended cuffs are ruched and accented with an Art Deco beaded applique embellished with black rhinestones. A back panel located at the hips and across the derrière creates a blouson back reminiscent of the cocoon shapes favored during the 1920's. Wear your best Louise Brooks bob and a sultry smokey eye to complete the look. CONDITION The dress is in very good condition with some signs of wear to the charmeuse fabric at the cuffs where the cording tends to pill as shown in photograph 14. The previous owner wore the collar pinned to create a tighter fit and as a consequence, there is a pinhole at the collar which is difficult to see but is shown in photograph 13. There are some long beads missing from the applique at both the collar and cuff which will probably go unnoticed though shown in photographs 11 and 12. SIZING & MEASUREMENTS The dress is marked a size 4 and fits true to size. Due to the batwing construction and blouson back panel, measurements might look large but the drop waist panel, collar and cuffs provide more of a structure to the fit. For visual reference, the mannequin in the photographs is a size 4.
