Exquisite museum worthy aubergene velvet embroidered metallic caftan The incredible caftan / robe is embellished with extraordinary three dimensional gold metallic stumpwork embroidery throughout The mind blowing metallic hand embroidery is illuminated against the deep purple velvet background. The stumpwork is in a floss twisted silk and metal thread design. The intricate hand embroidery is depicted with sinuous vines trailing across the velvet background surface; interrupted by large gold metallic roses. The floral designs are emerging from classic urns The entire background surface is alive with a lush garden of floral and sinuous leaf designs. Tiny gold metallic sequins are scattered within the intricate metallic embroidery The caftan gown is backed with a stiff rigid velvet fabric to give support to the elaborate heavy raised metallic stumpwork embroidery The caftan gown is lined in a separate vibrant pink taffeta satin slip The bodice is designed with a deep slit that secures at the neckline with a single hook closure This level of museum quality embroidered stumpwork textile was seen in palaces, cathedrals, for ceremonial attire etc.. Originated in 1870s England where designers such as Wm.
