About the Item

Leopard print maxi dress from the 1970s, labeled Ole Borden for Rembrandt and Martha, AKA, Martha Phillips who had one of the most successful retail fashion businesses of the 20th Century. She loved spotting new design talent and launched many a successful career. There were four Martha shops in the 1980's, when sales were said to be almost $40 million. Customers at her elegant Park Avenue and Palm Beach salons were some of the world's richest and most socially prominent women, who often filled in checks that ended in three and four zeros. After her 1996 death Geoffrey Beene described Mrs. Phillips as ''an icon to an audience of a more frivolous era of dressing -- steeped in vanity and femininity." Danish born Ole Borden moved to the US in 1952, he designed the “Young Look” line at Lord & Taylor from 1959 to 1964. He moved to Rembrandt and designed there until 1974. Leopard print maxi dress from the 1970s with a fitted bodice that has a mock neck and long sleeves it is done in a small scale leopard print...The attached maxi skirt of a bold leopard print, is fitted and has a panel at the front that is outlined in flat black braid, the braid is continued along the hem of the dress. Top and bottom are fully lined, the skirt in bright coral orange. The dress fabric feels like a rayon blend. Closes at the back with a zipper and hooks and eyes. This dress has been professionally dry cleaned, there remain some yellowing to the lining under arms, the outside fabric is fine. Together with a gold metal belt that has a buckle closure. Fits like a size small. In excellent wearable condition... All our clothing is dry cleaned and inspected for condition and is ready to wear...Any condition issues will be noted...For visual comparison our mannequin is a size 4.
