About the Item

The legacy and distinction of Leonard comes from their unique prints on luxurious silks. Instead of lavish couture elements, Leonard designs simplify beauty through the abstract combining artistic elements of line, color, and shape with the textile. From the 1990’s, this custom couture Leonard Paris dress and shawl set is rare and one-of-a-kind. Done in a silk stretch satin with black transparent sides, the dress features a white, black, and grey geometric print with metallic silver details. The voluminous matching shawl is done in silk taffeta and may be worn draped over the shoulders or across the body to create a dramatic, regal silhouette. The maxi-length dress begins with a simple jewel neckline and long sleeves that reach just above the wrists. The elegant, columnar silhouette allows the print to take center stage while the sheer fabric at the left side of the dress creates a sensuous allure. The transparent fabric at the left sleeve and sides has a stiffness that maintains its shape, and is set with bands of metallic silver ribbon that catch the light. A complementary print bordered by black and metallic silver stripes at the cuffs of the sleeves and hems of dress and shawl visually pulls the top together with the skirt, and the shawl together with the dress. An unexpected thigh high slit at the center back of the dress allows for greater ease of movement while adding another risqué element to this incredible ensemble. A stunning addition to the discerning fashion lover’s wardrobe, this dress and shawl set is a knockout choice for a wedding, gala, or special occasion. In excellent condition, this unlined Leonard of Paris dress has zip closures at the cuffs and closes with a concealed back zip. The inside of the hem is backed with a silver chain and the shoulder pad can easily be removed. The label has fallen out, but the print on the dress and shawl is signed ‘Leonard’. High quality vintage pieces like this are yours to live in and love while increasing in value every year.
