About the Item

This is a really good 1930s jacket when floral satin fabrics were the height of fashion and sophistication for dinner and cocktail-wear. This has a really excellent print made up of a floral spray of what looks like irises and roses amongst others. It has a wide tapering lapel collar in a deep V and fastens with a double button and hook and eye fastening. The sleeves are shaped around the elbow and are well tapered as they head towards the wrist with a long row of ornamental satin buttons that stand proud of the side seam. Each cuff actually closes with two popper buttons. It is remarkable that these satin ones are all present and in such good condition. The jacket also has a fantastic quality, quilted black silk lining. The piece is not labelled but it's likely to have been part of a dress set. At some point sweat guards were attached; these could easily be removed, however, they are in excellent condition and we've left intact. Furthermore, this jacket has been made bigger in the past; the two front darts have been removed and the side seams have been let out very gently leaving the faintest stitch marks. These cannot be noticed when worn and the jacket can absolutely be returned to its original size with no issue. The darts on the back are intact. We often return let out items to their original size but this has been done so well and the new owner may relish this jacket's larger size. The satin is in impeccable antique condition save for a very small mark on one cuff (photographed). Suitable for up to a UK size 16 or US 12. MEASUREMENTS Bust - 42 in. (106.7 cm) Waist - 38 in.
