About the Item

Gorgeous candleholders in “Capri” model from the French firm Bernardaud, a house that works Limoges porcelain. On the cylindrical base stamped with red Vichy squares is a shiny golden sphere that holds a glass in which the candles are placed. The rim of the glass features a golden touch, which together with the golden sphere, the Vichy squares, and the whiteness of the Limoges porcelain bring a flirtatious and elegant touch to home decor. More about Limoges Porcelain... The history of the most famous French porcelain factory begins in 1768, when important deposits of kaolin were discovered in Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche, very close to Limoges. This delicate white clay would prove decisive in the creation of porcelain of such high quality that it came to be compared with Chinese porcelain, then considered the finest in the world. Thus began the development of a new ceramic industry in Europe. King Louis XVI issued an edict granting the city of Limôges exclusive permission to produce porcelain for the kingdom of France. After the French Revolution, several private porcelain factories were established in the town, and each would be identified with a different name or symbol. Today, each of their designs is unique and devised by true artists. Limôges porcelain is made in about twenty manufactories, all located in the department of Haute-Vienne. Recognizing authentic Limôges porcelain is very simple: all the objects of the French house bear the stamp of their manufacturer. Usually stamped in black or blue, this mark can give us very precise clues to date the piece. A great deal of Limôges porcelain was manufactured in white and decorated afterwards. For this reason, this stamp was often accompanied by the decorator's stamp. The shipping of the product will be paid by the buyer according to the dimensions, weight and destination.
