About the Item

As unique vintage handcrafted textile art including a 20th-Century tag with its artist signature, Vienna-Austria origin and stuffing content, this multi-color "clown" teddy bear has a textural body that appears to be made from hand-loomed brocade, along with a stretchable pullover collar made from green silk fabric that was hand-painted with rose tones. The bear has a hand-woven black wool nose and smile, along with black plastic-button eyes. The dense filling is upholstery-style cotton wadding according to the "baumwolle" care-tag. We could not find any information about the noted artist, which suggests that she may be deceased. As the fabric is in very good condition since acquired from a fashion collector who used it as a decorative tabletop-object to display her brooch costume-jewelry since the late 1980s, it does not appear to have ever been a child's toy. Although, we see no reason see why it should not be now! Without discoloration or other losses, the construction is sound with only a few stretched or frayed threads.
