Extraordinary Antique Japanese Embroidered Tapestry

About the Item

An extraordinary antique Japanese embroidered tapestry depicting an autumn forest scene with thatched cottage along a riverbank and Mt. Fuji in the far distance. The entire tapestry is created by hand embroidered individually laid satin stitch technique, the threads of which have been dyed with natural vegetable pigments. The overall atmosphere of this work of art is one of gentle contemplative ease. Circa 1890. Measuring 75.5 in. (191.77) high by 50.25 in. (127.63 cm.) wide.
