Full body armor - Japan, Edo period is a unique decorative object manufactured in Japan during the Edo period (1603-1868), in the 18th century. Dimension: 150 cm (height) The samurai is one of the symbol of the Land of the Rising Sun. Each samurai commissioned a specialized craftsmen to create an armor which perfectly suited not only to their body but also to their aesthetic sense. It was to be light enough to allow the movement in battle, but also proofed enough to protect the soldier from the enemy attacks. In this example, the kabuto helmet is embellished on the front by a wooden maedate in the shape of a demon. The agemina dragon of silver visible on the armor, powerful in the sinuous unwinding of its scaled coils. Provenance: the armor was purchased in 2000 at Fred Weissberg's Nihonto, one of the most respected connoisseurs of Japanese art related to the world of samurai. This artwork is shipped from Italy. Under existing legislation, any artwork in Italy created over 70 years ago by an artist who has died requires a licence for export regardless of the work’s market price.
