Rare Greek bronze grotesque statuette of a pugilist boxer. Alexandrian, Hellenistic Period, 1st century BC. Provenance: Ex. Collection Louis-Gabriel Bellon (1819-1899). Formerly in the collection of Julien Gréau, Lot 985. Published: Collection Julien Gréau, Catalogues des Bronzes Antiques et des Objets d'Art du Moyen-Age et de la Rennaissance, décrits par W. Froehner, Hôtel Drouot , Salle Nr. 3, 1.-9. Juin 1885, p. 211, Lot Nr. 985 (Petit grotesque d'Alexandrie, coiffé d'une calotte arabe qui ressemble au fez des zouaves. Il a un tablier noué autour des anches; sa jambe droit porte en avant, ses bras s'apprêtent au pugilat, mais sa main droite seule est armée du ceste. Beau style, travail très fin.
