WHY WE LOVE IT: Anytime we find "Dragon in Compartments" we're happy! We are pleased to offer this antique porcelain punch bowl painted in the Dragon in Compartments pattern. Made circa 1880 the exterior of this exceptional bowl is painted with two panels showing mythical beasts with gilt foliage. These panels alternate with panels showing the objects of good fortune (see images 3, 5, 6, and 7). Dragon in Compartments is an exotic pattern originally painted on 18th century Chinese export porcelains. The bright greens, oranges, and yellows combine with the soft blues to create a striking decoration which was one of the most sought after designs in the 18th century and continues to be popular today.
