19th Century Chinese Red Lacquered Opium Canopy Bed

About the Item

Opt for drama with this late 19th century Chinese opium canopy bed, crafted of elmwood. The exterior is heavily decorated with gold leafing, carvings, ornate carved figurine pillars, and delicate fretwork. The interior features eight, hand painted, ornately designed panels, a woven reed caned bed/mattress platform, and a low chest with two drawers on each side. The interior ceiling is formed from hand painted panels, complimentary of the vertical interior wall side panels. This extremely rare piece is in great, antique condition, especially considering this piece is over 100 years old! It includes the Chinese wax import/export stamp for antiques over 100+ years. Absolutely immaculate piece with all original fretwork, gilt work, and pearl inlay. Please note: Assembly is required. Two to three sets of hands are needed to interlock 34 pieces that bid with wooden slats. Measures: Entire piece: 88" x 80" x 88". Bed platform will fit a 77.5" x 47.5" mattress. Opening: 55.25" x 40.5".
