Contemporary WOOL Wall Tapestry, Amazonia Statement Rug, Green Aerial Landscape
About the Item
AMAZÓNIA tapestry is one of a kind contemporary artwork and can be placed on the floor as a carpet/rug or hanged as wall art. Handmade using tufting loop and cut pile. Made from 100% Portuguese wool yarn with anti-moth treatment. The bass-relief is carved with scissors, creating different heights and a textured based landscape.
This tapestry represents a Statement to Climate Change and Sustainability. The current lifestyle and exaggerated consumption on a planetary scale is having disastrous consequences for natural ecosystems and could rapidly lead to the extinction of our own species. The piece represents the deforestation of tropical forests and brings an alert, a reflection on our behavior through words, which relates the importance of valuing what is handmade and recovering ancestral traditions, as opposed to Industrial process, excessive consumption and what the hand of man causes and destroys with the lifestyle he practices, and with the egocentrism that distances him from the notion that we are part of a greater whole. Bringing awareness for circular economy based on sustainability, durability and excellence is the greatest legacy to leave for future generations.

Estudio OHXOJA
Estudio OHXOJA is a textile art studio that seeks to have an original approach inspired by the sea and nature. Catarina Cruz and Tiago Amaral, self-taught textile artists, are the portuguese couple behind the studio. They come from different backgrounds, Catarina was window dresser and Tiago was freelance architect. In 2020, during pandemic, they discover in textile art a new form of expression and start autonomously exploring traditional techniques of tapestry. Estudio OHXOJA was the result project that was born from the need of slowing down against society’s rush, mass consumption and mass production, and in this new adventure they were able to collide creativity and artistic perspectives. The studio is based in Costa da Caparica, a beach paradise near Lisbon and the proximity of the sea and natural landscapes inspire them in creative process. The couple produce handmade contemporary tapestries with 100% portuguese wool, for the wall or the floor using various techniques, from punch needle, tuftinggun or textile sculpture. The bas-relief is carved with scissors, accentuating shapes, light and shades. Each piece is unique and unrepeatable, reflecting emotions or memories and providing both visual and tactile experiences for those who purchase it. Raising awareness of how human behavior impacts the environment is one of the concerns in their creations.
