Late 19th C. Chinese Export Painted Leather Chest on Later Stand

About the Item

Late 19th Century Chinese Export Painted Leather Chest on Later Stand. Deep red paint on leather wrapped wood trunk/chest. The front is adorned in beautiful gold painted Chinese vessels, some with flowers. The sides are more simple gold painted foliage. The top, bottom and back are unadorned. Interior top is wrapped in leather and stamped with maker marks. Remnants of paper liner inside bottom. Could be used as a low coffee table or an end table. Lovely wooden later stand. Original hardware. Leather has warping, chipped and gouges to leather/finish in some areas, see photos. 31” wide x 20.5” deep x 18.75”high (on stand) 13” high stand 6” high x 32” wide x 21.5” deep - stand Provenance: Private Collection, New York, New York
