Chinese Antique Rose Chairs Pair Armchairs

About the Item

The famed Rose chair's legacy began in the Song dynasty when they were wider and shorter. Ming dynasty revolutionized the ancient chairs by elevating and streamlining them, removing frivolous decorations and refining them with superior woods and craftsmanship. The Rose chair is considered of high sophistication with its signature open back framed with carved borders and straight, square arm rests. The square crestrail connects to back stiles that became legs after passing through the frame member of the solid seat. Three low panels with "open-light" cutouts wrap around the seat, above 2 pairs of double stretchers. Front apron with "tiger's-mouth" design, typical of Northern China. These elegant chairs are authentic Qing dynasty rose chairs, in remarkable, solid condition with all original patina. They work beautifully with all interior designs.
