Six Posted Canopy Bed with Carved Fretwork Railings circa 1800 Suzhou Double Bed

Fine six-posted canopy bed. The bed base with a rounded-front edged frame and a caned top, supported on circular-sectioned legs decorated with straight stretchers and vertical struts, the six posts braced on the back and sides by railings of tiered straight stretchers and vertical struts, two short railings with lattice work of the endless knot (an auspicious symbol of wisdom, compassion and harmony) flanking the opening to the bed, the upper frieze with a series of open-carved frames decorated with fretwork of geometric blossoms motif Ju mu (Southern Elm) Suzhou, Circa 1800 Measures: 89”W x 65” D x 91 ½” H (226 cm W x 165 cm D x 230 cm H) One of the best finely carved examples of the six posted canopy bed and genuinely usable as a double bed.
