Charming Japanese Komai Style Iron Box

About the Item

As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this charming Meiji Period (1868-1912) damascened iron trinket box manufactured by one of the Komai company contemporaries of the period. The iron ground has been decorated on the lid in damascened gold and silver to cleverly depict a bijin holding a flower while resting at a fence , to her side is her loyal companion an Akita or similar dog, the sides of the box are also picked out with gold butterflies, the interior being silver lined.The base stands on four bracket feet and bears a factory seal while the lid is signed with a three character gilt signature, a very pleasing iron box from the Meiji Period. Provenance : Previously supplied by ourselves to a USA gentleman’s collection. Condition Report : The condition is lovely and original.
