Late 19th century red lacquer Asian wedding Basket Lidded two-tiered Chinese treen basket with bamboo and treen carrying handle. Decorative Chinese basket often known as a marriage basket. Wonderful food caddy basket with two compartments, hand painted with gilt and black foliage, fish and a boy on the lid. Used for special occasions such as a picnic or even for provisions for a wedding. Two tiers and a lid, with a bamboo carrying handle.The lid is quite deep and reveals a timber interior all sections appears to have inscriptions painted inside. The top compartment lifts off to reveal a deeper lower section. Will make a fabulous statement for display. Some expected age splits, minor losses to lacquer. Measures: Height 17 inches. Diameter 11.5 inches widest with handles. Diameter 11 inches.
