Umetaro Azechi Mountain Man Holding a Pigeon Japanese Woodblock Umetaro Azechi Japanese Artist (1902-1999) Azechi was born in Ehime Prefecture, located on the Japanese island of Shikoku. He was a Sosaku-hanga (Art Movement of Woodblock Printing) Artist known for his bold and minimal prints based on Ainu Indigenous Tribe of Japan and on Scenes depicting Mountains and Mountaineers. Azechi was an avid Mountain-Climber, whose depictions of Mountain Men are a recurring theme in his Artwork.
